South West Series Results
The past two weeks in the South West series have been very successful for the Hamilton Cycling Club with Callum Mirtschin being out best performer with a win at the Greg Gleeson in Warrnambool and a 3rd at the Doug Pettingil Memorial Hamilton to Port Fairy. Chris Kennett is also in good form finishing in the top 10 both times. It was great to see so many Hamilton riders flying the new Hamilton colours and they certainly stand out on the road amongst the other competitors.
Callum now leads the South West series after three races with Chris Kennett 4th, Dean McLaren 8th and Scott Kruger 10th with plenty of others knocking on the door.
Junior results at the Pettingil saw Jessica McLaren taking another win in the Under 15/17s and Lucas Riley finishing 3rd in the Under 11/13s.
Tegan and Rhyan Menzel finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the Under 17/15s at the Greg Gleeson the previous week.
Saturday racing from here on in with a 30k and 10k race on Mt Napier Rd this Saturday starting at 1:30pm. $5 entry for either of both (two for one!). Next South West series race is the Soldiers Memorial on ANZAC day (25th April) in Mt Gambier followed by the Wal Smith Memorial (Open) and the Kelpie Classic (South West series) run on the weekend of the 27th and 28th of April by the Wal Smith Foundation.

TdU – New kit gets out and some lucky HCC members meet up with Team Bahrain – Merida
Luke and Jessica McLaren were lucky enough to get a chance to meet and ride with Team Bahrain – Merida at the TdU. We here that it’s all thanks to Uncle Mark! It’s a pity their old man didn’t get any shots with the team, we still haven’t managed to see him in his new HCC kit! Would have to say it looks a million dollars!
Boys do us proud at National Club Criterium Championships!
In early January at the Road Nationals held in Ballarat, Rhett Beattie, Danny Hunt, Chris Kennett & Scott Kruger represented the Hamilton Cycling Club in the 90+ category. In scorching heat (40+) they raced 13 laps of the 1.1k Sturt St circuit. This was a lead up event to the Elite Men’s and Woman’s events in front of big crowds. Finishing 3rd was impressive against other stronger Melbourne clubs. With little training the boys are fired up to have another go in 2020. It would be great to see the club enter into the other age categories and possibly hold some criterium racing in the lead up to the Nationals for practice. It was just a pity that the new club kit hadn’t arrived in time for the day!
New kit arrives!
Finally a new kit after many years of the previous design. Long story short, the club’s committee felt it was time for a new kit that set the club apart from others out in the peloton. I think we achieved that. Looks like one excited customer!
